Interview With My Boys 2014

I'm so excited to do this again this year! Last year I asked my boys these same questions, (Lincoln was five and Asher was two), and their responses were great! Here is the link from last year http://pacefamilyplace.blogspot.com/2013/07/interview-with-my-boys-2013.html They didn't disappoint this year either. Loved hearing their perspective and how much has changed or stayed the same since last year. Lincoln looks so much more grown up and Asher is still obsessed with Batman but talks much better. I also noticed Lincoln's responses are more grown up, after having been to kindergarten he understands more about bullies and how people can be mean. He didn't want to answer these questions originally either because he hates being "drilled" on questions, it reminds him of school and he gets anxious. Love these dudes, maybe next year at this time I will be able to include Marsden since he will be talking more and understanding more at that time! Enjoy. :)

Lincoln Age 6 years 4 months

10 Months. a poem

10 months old and getting bigger
two teeth, sweet feet and so much vigor

Taking steps and loves his daddy
Naps two times but sleeps pretty crappy

Follows his big brothers all day long
Giggles, plays and is crazy strong

Poops so much, and wow it smells
Mimics our words and even yells.

Loving this time with my littlest boy
His smile, his laugh they bring me joy

10 months old, and so much fun
Marsden, sweet boy. I love you, son.

The funny thing about having a blog is....

The funny thing about having a blog is.... that if I post something it is here forever, and well, everyone can see what I do, and when I mess up then it feels extra embarrassing.

For instance, I wrote an angry passionate blog post about our horrible orientation for kindergarten and fervently declared that Lincoln would not be attending there. Six months and many discussions later, and today he attended kindergarten for the first time. I would take it back, but also I know we live and learn in life.

Another example is a few years ago I wrote a post all about my hatred for becoming a mini-van mom, and now I am practically begging to get one! HA!

I am learning to laugh at myself and just get through life each obstacle at a time!

Interview with my boys 2013

I had a blast asking my older two boys some deep questions about themselves today, and I just LOVED their answers. It is so cool to hear things from the perspective of a 5 year old and a 2 year old. I would love to ask them these things every year to see how the answers change. Enjoy some hilarious and heart-warming answers from my little dudes. I wrote everything down word-for-word and did not change a thing.

Lincoln-isms version 2012

This is Lincoln's year in review, mostly from facebook updates, and random pictures from Instagram. He says the silliest things. He is so observant and hilarious. This year has been so fun with him. Have a giggle.

  • "mom, tell Asher to stop hulk-ing me"

  • Lincoln embarrassed me beyond belief today when we were out in greensboro... We has walked past an Asian man and Lincoln yells pretty loudly, "LOOK MOM, he is from Gangnam Style." I just stared at him open mouthed and quickly walked away, hoping no one heard him. :o

  • We have been laying around and snuggling all day after Lincoln being sick and throwing up all night. The three of us woke up from an afternoon nap and Lincoln turned over to me and said, " You are so beautiful mommy. I love you more than SuperWhy." ;)

  • We pulled up to drop Sarah off at her work and I was explaining that Sarah works there to Lincoln he responded with, " but she can't work, only daddies work." *facepalm

  • Lincoln wished on the blue moon tonight over and over. He said he wants a Woody doll. :) silly boy.

  • Lincoln's adorable quote for the day: " mom, I wish I wanted to woosh away into outer space".

  • Lincoln's new thing- Me: Lincoln why did you do that? or how come you didnt want to do this? Lincoln: Because it doesn't say so in my story. thanks SuperWhy.

  • "Lincoln, who was mad at me for not sharing the last bite of yogurt, told me that a policeman was going to come and poke me in the eye...."

  • Lincoln just made me one teary eyed sappy mama... he laid his head on my belly and said "mom can I tell baby Mars good things?" And I said of course. He started rubbing my belly and said " baby you are beautiful!" :) tears. Lots of sweet emotional tears. Night y'all. That just made my year.

  • Me: Lincoln get your seat buckled so we can go to the store. Lincoln: I'm not Lincoln, I am a princess. Everyone will know me now. Hahaha he found the headband on the floor as won't take it off. Insists in wearing it into the store. I can't make this stuff up. LOL.

  • "he is the king of the spidermans"

i love this kid.

Asher's New Milestone

It is two days before Asher turns two years old.

He has reached a new milestone of epic proportions...

He pooped in his diaper and blamed it on the dog. Literally, he pointed to the dog and said, " Abby pooped" with the silliest grin on his face. HAHAHAHA. I love this kid.

Lessons I have Learned, Day 3 of watching 5 boys under 5!

  1. Sugar is your enemy, especially in large quantities. LIMIT the kids sugar!!!
  2. BUT sugar in your morning coffee is your best friend.
  3. Toddler-aged boys eat like teenagers. Bottomless pits, yall.
  4. Squat with your legs when you clean or pick up the kids. Your back will feel it if you do not.
  5. Playtime is absolutely necessary, especially free running outside playtime. Get those energies out boys!
  6. Everything is more fun and easier with a SONG! ;)
  7. Stop trying to clean up right behind them all day long. You will go insane.
  8. Go ahead and pat yourself on the back if you get a load of laundry done or do the dishes.
  9. Make some rooms off limits, for your sanity.
  10. Naptime. It is a marvelous thing.
  11. Try and have some consistency to your schedule, try and teach them things with every little activity you do together. Breakfast time- count the cheerios, playtime- animal sounds and colors, etc.
  12. Hugs can fix most anything
  13. It is impossible not to smile when 5 little boys are all giggling together
  14. Give extra attention and love to your own kiddos at the end of the day, even if your touched out and do not want to. They crave the special mommy/son time.

Dear Hubby, ahem.

Dear Hubby,
When I asked you to come help get the hair band band out of my tangled hair...I did NOT mean for you to actually cut my hair!  You cut the hair band off, not my hair. Now I have a random short spot in the back. Totally not funny, and your still chuckling about it. I. WILL. GET. YOU. BACK. FOR. THIS. ONE!
All the love I possess at this moment,
                           ~Jess

Slightly odd and random family facts

 Jessica
  •  I have Ornithophobia- an abnormal, irrational fear of birds. Seagulls terrify me the worst though.
  • When I was 18 and got my first tattoo on a whim with my friend Melissa, I did a back handspring in the tattoo shop for the artists. I was such a show-off and a flirt.

Zack

  • Would have been an astrounaut in another life, he loves all things space
  • Is currently writing his own comic book
Lincoln
  • Has a third nipple, no joke, its pretty badass.
  • Is a little obsessed with his peepee and poopoo right now. Will compare sizes of said excrement and tell me things like, "oh, look at that one that was a daddy sized poop, oh there was the little baby sized poop"

Asher

  • Obsessed with all things boob shaped. He will test it out with his mouth first, always, and in public. Makes me giggle.
  • Thinks its funny to pull on your lips and scratch you and grab you as hard as he can with his baby talons. No joke this baby can do some damage, and he will laugh about it the whole time.

Big Boy Undies!!!!

I just want to (officially?) announce that Lincoln is finally a potty user. I guess 3 years, and 4 months was the perfect amount of time that my son needed to prepare himself for this event in his life. Not that everyone really cares or wants to know this, but I am proud of him. We struggled with potty using for over a year. I started too early with him and tried to insist to everyone that he was ready. But honestly I thought he was ready back then, just cause he could explain the whole thing, but he did not care to do it in practice. We tried every trick in the book! In the end it took a few good weeks of hard hard work trying to gently lead him into being diaper free. What won him over finally was when we went to target to fill a basket full of "POTTY PRIZES" and he got to pick a potty prize every time he used the bathroom. We did that for about 2 weeks, now he is doing it all on him own for the sheer joy of it. *On a side note, I am not really keen on the word potty trained, but it was more of a learning process and in the end the result it the same: I am so proud of my big boy using the potty! (I am writing this blog while he is having his morning potty time, an is announcing to me the sizes of his doos)

Shameful Admissions #3

I have a more positive self-image when I am pregnant, especially big and full and pregnant. I feel like my body has a purpose and it is beautiful being all round and buddha like, cause I am totally growing another human being in there.

But now that I am fully un-pregnant, I feel crappy about my body image. It does not just bounce back like some women's bodies who look like they never have carried a child in their life. I think it has a lot to do with my c-section scar and the way it makes my belly divet in there... its just horrible. I am deflated looking, utterly deflated. AND I KNOW... my body is still amazing in the fact that I am the sole provider of nourishment for my 4 month old baby. He has never had a drop of anything else other than the milk I make with my own body. In that respect, its pretty amazing. But hey, this is my shameful admission post and I am just gonna get it out there. I hate my post-baby body. HATE.

Real MOM moments....

You know you've really made it to mom-dom when:
~ You find your self humming tunes to your kids favorite shows, even when your out by yourself. "We did it, we did it, we did it, yeah, lo hicimos, we did it"

~When you go shopping  for yourself and you come back with clothes for the kids instead.
~You can fully understand your toddlers ramblings and translate to strangers. How did they not understand what he just said?
~The smell of a newborn is intoxicating to you, and instantly makes your ovaries ache :)

Ok, ladies, what are some of your mom moments????

Thought this would be fun.
